New Dentures or Denture Replacement? What are the Problems?

I was reading some dental journals and reading some articles about patients with dentures. There are an estimated 52 million denture units being worn today in the U.S. “The adult population in need of one or two complete dentures will increase from 33.6 million adults in 1991 to 37.9 million adults in 2020.” How old is the average denture?  Would you believe 17 to 18 years old?
Most dentures are unhealthy disease sponges.
An 18-year-old denture needs to be remade. Studies indicate 50 percent of these are infected with yeast, which causes contact persistent gum irritation and disease.  Gum disease (check our website and dental health blog for more information) is correlated to higher incidence of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.  PLEASE SEE OUR YOUTUBE VIDEO AT YouTube LiveWithoutDentures
It’s the Discomfort
People know comfort when they feel it. Many patients’ have a fear that if they get a new denture, it will not be a comfortable as their old denture.  Modern fabrication can actually duplicate and improve their old dentures.  How many times do patient’s say, “I want a new denture that feels like my old denture”? Academic research indicates “? Older people usually adapt poorly to new dentures, which probably explains why they seldom return to have old but familiar dentures replaced.”
How can Dentures be more Comfortable?
First-don’t do a radically new denture by starting over from scratch.  Keep many of the old comfortable aspects of the previous denture.
Second—use the best materials that resist processing errors and bacteria and yeast infection in the future!
Third—find the “best bite” for the dentures.  It amazes me constantly how patients say there dentures looks good, but they cannot chew (there are many reasons for this problem!).
Fourth—insist on a pre-finish check on esthetics, cosmetics , and fit so you can change appearance and “the feel” prior to finishing.
Fifth—look at some of the modern, and the “standard of care” implant supplements or even complete replacements for dentures.
